OK, my wife has been complaining about using my 2 gallon rigid vacuum cleaner to clean her car. She thinks it’s too big and heavy and too cumbersome. So I was looking around for alternatives because she didn’t like the havoc that we have because it couldn’t get into the areas she wanted. After some study I came across the Ryobi 18 Volt one gallon what dry Vacuum. It’s small lightweight and very easy to handle. It will accept a number of tools air can be easily carried and the tools can get into all the places that she needs so the car can be cleaned.

Because, I am transitioning my shop to cordless power, I am focusing on reliable battery-operated tools for daily tasks. While Milwaukee has been my primary focus lately, I wanted to see how accessible options like Ryobi stack up for dust collection and shop cleanup. This video covers the unboxing and assembly process, showing exactly what you get inside the box.

By the way I already have several Ryobi tools hence I already have their battery set. Because those are primarily for my blower and scrubber which I use on my deck those batteries don’t get much use I could pull those in for use on the vacuum whenever I want. You’ll save me the purchase of initial batteries and chargers.

Opening the box it’s pretty straightforward. It has all the usual including this instruction manual which of course I didn’t read. But it’s easy to assemble you open the vacuum cleaner up by unlatching the ends and separating the top from the bottom. Inside you’ll find the hose, the hose elbows, The crevice tool, and the hose retainers. The filter is already attached.

This unit comes with a ball assembly to prevent liquids from entering the motor if you happen to be sucking up water. By the way do not use this with flammable liquids.

Everything goes together very easily but the hose retainers do you require that they be screwed in. One thing I did note is that for some reason the bottom and top only fit together one way I haven’t figured out why they did that. I would have made it so it fit either way.

Overall This seemed to be a pretty good tool. Especially since I looked at the Milwaukee 2 gallon which is larger obviously more bulky and honestly more difficult to use. I’m sure it’s great at a job site but for what I’m using it for and what my wife is using it for this Ryobi 1 gallon is perfect.
