Here is a really easy to make farmhouse style paper towel holder that your kitchen cleaning crew will love. It only takes some scrap and a few tools to complete. You can make it as simple or fancy as you like too!
And follow this link to my Video to see how it is done. VIDEO LINK
Tools & Materials
Materials for the paper towel holder project are simple. You will need a 6”x 6” x 3/4″ base, a 12” long dowel 1/2” in diameter, a 12” long dowel 1-1/4” in diameter, one 2-1/2” Screw, and some glue. Tools are simple too. You need a 1-1/4” in diameter Forstner bit and a 1/2″ diameter Forstner bit, I’ve dropped links at the bottom.
Size Your Parts
First thing to do is to size your parts. Cut the base 6”x 6” square or if you ate making it round make it 7” in diameter. Next cut both dowels to 12” in length.
Sand
Sand all the parts with 220 grit sandpaper
Drilling
Drill a 1-1/4” x 3/16” hole in the center top. Then drill a 1/4″ Hole through the center. Off one corner mark a center point in 3/4” x 3/4” and drill a 1/2” x 3/16 deep hole. Forstner bits do a perfect job of making a flat bottom hole.
Assembly and Glue up
Glue the dowels in place and screw in a 2-1/2” wood screw from the bottom into the large dowel. Wipe up any excess glue.
Finishing
Apply the finish of your choice – I used “rattle can” white and applied a thin coat for that cottage/farmhouse look.
Closing and congratulations
Wahoo – you are done with your paper towel holder!!
