Shop Mechanical Pencil Set Box

Your shop tools can be broken into four major categories, measuring, marking, cutting, and fastening. Like most shops, mine is littered with #2 pencils. I have them scattered about so I can find one every time and find a sharp one. I’ve tried using Mechanical pencils before, usually the .5mm and .7mm leads, but those are just too thin to work with most any wood. They break easily and the open grain catches the lead.  Cody, a friend of mine, gave me a set of these 2mm mechanical pencils. These have turned out to be absolutely great. They’re thick enough not to break easily. And still thin enough to keep a good point. In a very short time. These pencils have become my go to around the shop. Read on and see some of the features.

What’s in the Box?

The pencils provided by Cody were made by MyLifeUNIT. This particular package comes with two pencils one black, one blue, as well as two packs of 2mm lead, both 2B and HB.

Pencil Features

These pencils are actually pretty slick. They feature a non-slip polymer barrel either in blue or black. The usual push top to dispense the lead With about 3mm of lead being dispensed with each push. And a Silver Band about 2/3 of the way down which marks the type of lead. The lead type can be adjusted by rotating the Silver Band to the appropriate number.

The 2mm lead is pretty stout. You can see the picture below the difference between the 2mm and the .7mm lead. This size differential makes the 2mm lead much stronger and much more survivable. Another great thing about this mechanical pencil, because it’s a 2mm lead, you can also get white lead for it. White lead makes marking on dark woods like Brazilian Cherry or Walnut far easier.

Final thoughts.

These pencils are really great. I have to say in a very short time I’ve adopted these and I’m going to buy a few more just to have around the shop. Like I said, the 2mm lead is stout and very survivable. And I can get it in white which is super important for working at dark dark woods.  Personally, I suggest you get three or four of these for your shop because they’ll make your job much easier.
